As the name indicates, biological swimming pools are true aquatic ecosystems in small scale, where the people can swim without distrust.
A natural swimming pool eliminates completely the need for chemicals and constant cleaning because its biological cleaning process is complete. The food and the impurities of surplus, as well as the harmful bacteria, are transformed by plants, filters and water organisms into benign and complementary elements.

-The pool often can modestly serve native wildlife/bird purposes in addition to the enjoyment gained by the bathers.
-Waterfalls, streamcourses, bogs and fountains and other effects can establish a more serene "enviro-scape" and serve purposes of aeration, and biofiltration maintaining water quality.
-The natural pool water has the ability to be re-used for crop, garden or landscape irrigation purposes and/or livestock drinking when performing any backwash or pool water cleaning. Downstream effects of "used" water discharged are positive or neutral since water is devoid of chemicals and is completely fresh.
-In remote bush locations a pool can be used for emergency fire protection allowing fire crews to utilize water from the reservoir without fears of chemicals.
-Design/layout possibilities include anything imaginable such as from the very formal -"traditional" and architectural much like conventional pools constructed of sprayed or formed concrete OR utilizing UV stable liners or natural earthen construction giving the appearance and/or replication of a native or even exotic waterway surrounds such as that found in any lake, pond or wetland or a combination of the two.
-Very creative tailored designs, architecture and engineering can be implemented in terms of the overall integration and function for the entire landscape, hard-scape and building utility surrounds found or planned at any home site and their environmental impact thus keeping a small footprint.
-Existing or failing convential chlorinated pools can be "converted" as desired to retrofit an "Environmental Pool" in most cases.
