Description
Te Urewera Treks operates a unique range of 1-3 day guided walks in the remote forests of Te Urewera and Whirinaki. The region is home to some of New Zealand's most magnificent indigenous rainforest, as well as the beautiful Lake Waikaremoana. The forests are also rich in native birdlife, like kereru (native wood pigeon), tui, and kaka (parrot).
Our local Maori guides have an extensive knowledge of the area, and the trees, plants, and wildlife that you will encounter. They bring the landscapes alive with colourful stories of the region's histories and mysteries.
Our company is underpinned by four key areas of sustainability: environmental, social, cultural, and economic. We operate our treks according to the Maori concept of kaitiakitanga which is about guardianship of the forest and the life within it so it is there for future generations to enjoy.
We belong to the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter and are committed to continuously improving the way we operate.
