We value our ongoing partnership with the Ministry for the Environment as we seek improvements in this area. OfficeMax has also obtained Enviro-Mark NZ Diamond certification for our key sites in New Zealand. Our new purpose-built National Head Office has been built to Green Star 4 specifications. Environmental impact is a consistent factor in the selection of our products, both in the way they are manufactured and the environmental impact they have after use. We ensure that all our copy paper is sourced from sustainable forests and that our toner cartridges are re-manufactured without any compromise to output quality. At OfficeMax, we strongly support recycling practices and where indicated our range can be recycled through existing recycling programmes. OfficeMax’s EcoMax range of over 300 products has exceptionally high environmental credentials. These products have been selected by us because they meet our strict criteria for inclusion and they offer guaranteed environmental advantages over alternative products in their category. This range will expand as we source further products that meet the exacting environmental criteria we have set. There are 24 different environmental labels or credentials that we obtain about products that we feature in our EcoMax catalogue. Each product that qualifies for one of these credentials has it clearly displayed. You can be sure that by selecting one of these products the environmental impact is reduced over an alternative product that does not have any environmental characteristics.

Certification

Environmental management system with 5 levels of achievement: Bronze (compliance), Silver (bronze plus identify environmental aspects & impacts, and develop a policy), Gold (silver plus monitoring of continuous-improvement targets and objectives), Platinum (gold plus operational procedures and impact management methods), and Diamond (platinum plus internal management and audit programme ). At Diamond level, a business is ready for an ISO14001 audit. Enviro-Mark NZ is based on the UK Enviro-Mark specification.

The FAIRTRADE Label is an independent guarantee that products have been certified to internationally recognised Fairtrade standards. This ensures that a fair price and premium has been paid to producers in developing countries. Fairtrade Certification carries ISO 65 accreditation.
