Description YHA Greymouth Kainga-ra is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills of Greymouth, the largest town in the middle of the South Island’s wild and wonderful West Coast. This 4 star Greymouth backpackers was the local Marist Brothers Residence in the 1930s and a lot of the original native wood features have been retained in the hostel to create a unique and welcoming backpacker hostel. Some quirky and spacious budget backpacker accommodation is available in the converted old Chapel and the Brothers' study room is now a comfortable lounge. On the side of a steep hill and facing west overlooking the Tasman Sea, the YHA Greymouth hostel boasts fantastic views with great opportunities for that awesome sunset shot. On clear days, you can also sometimes catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the river mouth! Short bush walks are available close to the hostel for the nature lover.
