To clarify some of the points raised by Pip.
An open pollinated type of plant is not necessarily an heirloom (heritage) plant. An heirloom is usually one that has been saved in its same form for 3 generations or more, a generation is usually regarded as 25 years.
Our suppliers in California and Italy are passionate in the preservation of heirloom varieties and are also 2 of the biggest world suppliers of organic seed to IFOAM standard.
All our imported seed is subject to rigorous testing for pest, disease and weed seed contamination.
The varieties of seed that ERMA identify as possibly being at risk from GE contamination are tested and cleared prior to Entry into New Zealand.

Kings Seed say they supply "open pollenated varieties" also described as Heirloom - are they not growing out in California and Italy? Firstly, they are not Heirloom here (as Koanga Institue seeds are) and secondly, open pollenated in places where GE is legal (US) is hardly an advantage to us here in NZ. Further clarification needed, I feel.
